Alexandria Police Department Kicks Off Holiday Season with Citywide Crime Prevention Initiative

The holidays are officially in full swing across Alexandria, and with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday ushering in one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) is launching its annual Holiday Crime Prevention Plan from now through December 31 to help keep our community safe.

Whether you’re exploring Old Town’s storefronts, supporting local businesses, or searching for online deals from home, APD is here to make sure everyone can enjoy the season with peace of mind.

A Citywide Effort to Keep the Holidays Bright

Running now through the end of the year, APD’s holiday safety initiative focuses on preventing seasonal crimes such as package thefts, larcenies, robberies, and traffic-related offenses. The initiative includes visible patrols, focusing enforcement on areas with the highest activity, engaging the community through safety tips and business outreach, and leveraging technology and data to respond efficiently and address repeat offenders.

Holiday Safety Tips—All Season Long

From now until December 31, APD will be sharing a series of easy, practical safety reminders across our social media platforms. These tips will focus on:

  • Protecting Package Deliveries (using lockers, tracking packages, coordinating with neighbors)
  • Staying Alert in busy parking lots and shopping areas
  • Protecting Your Vehicle by locking doors and removing valuables
  • Reporting Suspicious Activity—If something doesn’t look right, say something
  • And many more.

Each set of tips is designed to help you enjoy the season without interruption—whether you’re navigating packed parking lots on Black Friday, strolling down King Street for Small Business Saturday, or clicking “add to cart” on Cyber Monday.
