Alexandria Police Department Recognized Among Top 15 Communities Nationwide for National Night Out
Alexandria, VA – The City of Alexandria, Virginia, has been honored as one of the top 15 communities in the United States in its city size category for its participation in National Night Out, a nationwide event designed to strengthen community partnerships and promote public safety. Out of more than 400 communities that participated this year, Alexandria’s engagement, creativity, and commitment to fostering trust between officers and residents earned this prestigious recognition.
The National Association of Town Watch announced this week that Alexandria received this honor in its 2025 National Night Out Awards program, which recognizes communities for outstanding participation and engagement during the annual event. Alexandria’s recognition places it among the leading cities nationwide with a population of 100,000-300,000, demonstrating exemplary community involvement.
“National Night Out is about more than just a single evening, it’s a reflection of the ongoing partnership between our officers and the community we serve,” said Chief Tarrick McGuire. “We’re proud to be recognized for our efforts to create safe, welcoming neighborhoods and to connect with residents in meaningful ways.”
This year, APD participated in a record number of registered cookouts, block parties, neighborhood coffees, and potlucks, bringing together residents, city leaders, and local organizations to celebrate public safety and engagement.
The Alexandria Police Department remains committed to innovative policing strategies that prioritize relationships, transparency, and collaboration. Recognition in National Night Out’s top 15 in its city size category highlights the city’s ongoing dedication to building a safer, stronger Alexandria for all.
