Why Solarize?
Solarize is a no-cost, no-obligation program administered by the nonprofit organization Local Energy Alliance Program that reduces the cost and complexity of going solar. Participating in Solarize means that you are working with vetted installers with a track record of service and reliability, as well as receiving discounted pricing and support throughout the process from Solarize staff.
2025 Financial Incentives
NOW is the time to make an investment in solar. There are utility and federal financial incentives that can help make going solar more affordable—but they may not be available after 2025.
There’s a federal income tax credit for 30% of the cost of installing solar available for homeowners who install and activate their system by December 31, 2025. It’s uncertain whether this tax credit will still be available in 2026 and beyond, with the U.S. House of Representatives passing a bill that would end this credit after 2025.
Dominion Energy currently offers net metering—that is, customers receive a 1:1 energy credit for any electricity they send back to the grid. Proposed changes reduce that rate significantly for new solar installations. As of now, the proposed changes would not apply to homes that install solar before the changes take effect (which may be as soon as mid-2026), meaning they would be able to keep the 1:1 rate and other benefits of the current net metering agreement.
The City of Alexandria’s property tax exemption for the installation of solar will continue to be available.
If you’ve been considering solar for your home, Solarize has resources to help you navigate the decision and install by the end of the year.
