The City of Alexandria is Accepting Applications for the Torpedo Factory Art Center Stakeholder Task Force
For Immediate Release: June 7, 2022
The City of Alexandria is currently accepting applications for two at-large positions on the Torpedo Factory Art Center Stakeholder Task Force. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, June 24. The at-large members will be part of a 20-member Task Force that includes, but is not limited to, artists, tourism representatives, local businesses, and Commissioners. The at-large members of the Task Force will be selected through an open application process to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate.
In alignment with the principles adopted by the City Council, a Stakeholder Task Force was established to develop an approach to address vibrancy and sustainability of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The Task Force will work with a facilitator, staff, and consultants to broaden the scope of artistic expression and improve artist diversity. Task Force members will be expected to attend scheduled meetings as well as participate in the various community engagement activities (i.e., open house events, town halls, focus groups, etc.). The process is expected to take approximately 10-12 months.
An Alexandria landmark for nearly 50 years, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the nation’s largest collection of working-artists’ open studios under one roof. A highlight of the Potomac Riverfront, this space attracts approximately 500,000 visitors annually.
All eligible applications will be reviewed by City Manager Jim Parajon, who will then appoint the Task Force members.
