Due to the heat advisory for Alexandria, The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities has postponed the next stop on our 18th Annual Community Cookout Series. Please be safe tomorrow, and stay hydrated and in a cool space.

We’ve scheduled three more community cookouts — and due to the extreme temperatures, they’ll be held indoors so everyone can stay cool and safe. The next cookout will take place at Fairlington Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m. next week, Tuesday, July 1.

And a chance to connect with neighbors and learn more about the wide range of services and programs offered by City agencies. We hope to see you there!

The City of Alexandria Community Cookout was initiated by two dedicated staff members from the Department of Recreation. Their goal was to boost program participation and increase outreach to two of Alexandria’s most underserved communities.
 

As a result, what began as a small departmental project has grown into a major community initiative. Today, more than 50 city agencies and nonprofit organizations participate in the cookouts. These events have reached and served over 20,000 residents and are now proudly supported by the City Manager’s Office.
