Fireworks, Music, and Community: Thank You for Celebrating 276 years Alexandria!
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, July 12 as we celebrated Alexandria’s 276th birthday and the USA’s 249th! This cherished community tradition brought thousands together to enjoy music, food, and fireworks along the waterfront.
From the high-energy set by DJ Geena Marie to the moving poetry of Alexandria’s Poet Laureate Maria Cristina Donoso, the evening was filled with vibrant performances and heartfelt moments. The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra closed the night with a stirring concert, culminating in a dazzling fireworks finale that lit up the sky over the Potomac.
We’re incredibly grateful to the sponsors, vendors, partners, and community organizations who helped make the night a success. Special thanks to:
- George Worrell, our Master of Ceremonies for guiding the evening with warmth and energy
- Port City Brewing Company, for bringing their award-winning craft beers
- Wegmans, for donating cupcakes that were enjoyed by all
- Virginia American Water, for keeping guests cool and hydrated
- DASH, for providing cooling buses for attendees
- GO Alex, for operating the convenient bike/scooter/stroller valet
- And the many food truck vendors who added flavor to the festivities
We also extend our deepest appreciation to the City staff, volunteers, and first responders who helped the event run smoothly and safely.
“I’m so glad to be back in Alexandria and already looking forward to another year of celebrating all that makes this city great,” said Hashim Taylor, Director of the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities. “Cheers to a successful birthday celebration and to the community that makes it all possible,” he said.
Next year’s City Birthday celebration will return on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
