Meet the Artist Creating New Public Art for Time & Place 2026
Join the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts for a special reception with Richmond-based artist Sandy Williams IV on Tuesday, October 7 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Overlook Room (105 N. Union Street, 3rd Floor, Room 325). Remarks begin at 7 p.m.
Williams has been selected to create the next Time & Place public art project, part of Alexandria’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. “I see my artworks as conversation pieces, like portals or bridges, to thoughts, feelings, or histories that are absent, intangible or might only exist invisibly within space,” Williams says.
Their upcoming installation will be on view from May to November 2026 in the courtyard of the Alexandria Circuit Court at 520 King St.
The project will invite the community to reflect on the nation’s founding ideals and how we continue to shape them today. At the reception, Williams will share examples of past work and discuss their interest in this timely project.
