Free workshop with rsvp

Ever wondered how Hip-Hop blends creativity with science and technology? Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop that explores the STEM+Arts (STEAM) elements deeply embedded in Hip Hop culture.

What: The Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics Inherent in Hip Hop Culture Workshop

When: Thursday, December 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: Overlook Room at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 N. Union St

Who: This workshop is open to the public with RSVP. Designed for adults, teenagers may also participate and find value in the workshop (with younger teens accompanied by an adult).

Cost: Free with RSVP

Led by the “Digging in the Crates” (VTDITC) Hip Hop Studies team at Virginia Tech, this workshop breaks down the science behind two of Hip-Hop’s most iconic creative practices: DJing (mixing and scratching) and beat making. You’ll not only witness these art forms in action but also get a chance to try them yourself!

This workshop is part of a creative development series that is made possible through a collaboration between the Institute for Creative, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech, Expressions at Amazon Arlington, and the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts.

RSVP is required. Learn more about this workshop.
