This spring and summer, Alexandria’s Natural Resources Team is heading out into the community to meet residents, share knowledge, and celebrate the environment that makes our city thrive. From hosting interactive Meet & Greets to participating in major community events, the team will be your go-to resource for all things land, water, wildlife, and plants.
 

Natural Resources Meet & Greets
Meet Alexandria’s Natural Resource Managers and connect with the experts who help care for the city’s natural spaces. These events are a great opportunity to ask questions, learn about local ecosystems, and find ways to get involved.

  • Animals in the Park 
    April 25 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 
    Windmill Hill Park (501 South Union St.) 
    Meet live animals and learn about nature with the Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center. 

  • Kayak Launch Grand Opening 
    May 9 | 12-3 p.m. 
    Four Mile Run Park (3700 Commonwealth Ave.) 
    Celebrate Alexandria’s new ADA-compliant kayak launch with water access, beginner-friendly paddling, and outdoor fun. 

  • Community Cookout 
    Wednesday, May 13 | 6-7:30 p.m. (Rain date: May 14) 
    Mason at Van Dorn (140 S. Van Dorn St.) 
    Meet your neighbors, enjoy free food, participate in fun activities, and explore helpful community resources. Everyone is welcome.
     

City Nature Challenge
April 24-27 | Mobile App | Free 
Join a global effort to document nature using the iNaturalist app. Help Alexandria compete with cities around the world by observing and recording local plants and wildlife.
