Sheriff’s Office and Adult Detention Center Earn Reaccreditation from American Correctional Association
Sheriff Sean Casey is proud to announce that the American Correctional Association’s Commission on Accreditation for Corrections has reaccredited the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office (ASO) and William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center (ADC) and recognized ASO for excellence in jail operations.
The American Correctional Association (ACA) presented ASO with an official Certificate of Accreditation during its recent winter conference. Sheriff Casey accepted the award following a panel review with Commission members on February 7. He was joined by Captain Tonya Moss, Policy and Compliance Director LaTanya Ervin, and Accreditation Manager Steven Buttie.
The ACA accreditation covers all facets of jail operations, including administration and management, institutional operations and services, physical plant, and inmate programs. In October 2025, three auditors conducted a three-day onsite inspection of the ADC and interviewed inmates, staff, and contractors during their visit.
Following the auditors’ inspection and subsequent review, ACA found ASO to be in 100 percent compliance with all 58 applicable mandatory standards. In addition, ASO received a 99.7 percent score for being in compliance with 309 of 310 applicable non-mandatory standards.
“We are very proud to have maintained our ACA accreditation and to know that our policies and practices continue to meet their rigorous and highly respected standards,” says Sheriff Casey. “These numbers are extremely impressive and reflect our commitment to meeting and, whenever possible, exceeding best practices.”
The Sheriff’s Office holds a “Triple Crown Award” from the National Sheriffs’ Association for achieving simultaneous accreditation from the ACA, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. ASO has maintained continuous accreditation with ACA since 1989.
