Public Comment on Possible Leaf Blower Regulation to be Heard Saturday May 17
The Alexandria City Council invites the public to comment on a proposed ordinance to regulate gas-powered leaf blowers during its City Council Public Hearing on May 17.
Following direction from City Council, City staff have performed public outreach on the potential impact of the regulation, which is proposed to reduce unnecessary noise and protect air quality by banning gas-powered leaf blowers. Environmental Quality staff also regularly receive noise complaints related to gas-powered leaf blowers.
The first reading of the proposed ordinance will take place during the May 13 legislative meeting, with the public hearing to follow on Saturday, May 17.
In March, the City hosted two community meetings to provide an overview of the proposed regulation, anticipated impact, proposed timeline, and answer questions. Zoom recordings from those meetings are available on the City Noise webpage. Staff also reached out to residents, landscape companies, and local associations for feedback.
The public hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 17 at City Hall City Council Chambers.
More information about the proposed ordinance can be found on the City Noise webpage.
