Preparations Underway for Expected Winter Weather Conditions
Preparations Underway for Expected Winter Weather Conditions
With winter weather conditions predicted to begin tomorrow, the City of Alexandria is fully prepared to respond and keep the community safe. We are currently monitoring developing conditions and are ready to respond when needed.
Crews will deploy to roadways early Sunday morning, working in 12-hour shifts to treat and clear streets, and will continue operations around the clock until conditions improve and travel is safe.
In addition to the dedicated team of full-time City staff responsible for snow and ice removal operations, we also team with local contractors to make sure Alexandria is in the best position possible for responding to weather conditions.
We ask residents to stay safe and limit travel once inclement weather begins – not only does it keep you safe, but it allows crews to perform snow and ice removal work safely and efficiently.
About Road Pre-Treatment
Because the approaching weather system is still expected to be a rain and “wet” snow event, you may not see trucks out pre-treating roadways ahead of the storm. Because rain will precede the snow event, brine will be washed away and be ineffective. Our snow and ice removal crews are ready to respond as the event begins.
How You Can Help
If you have a driveway, please use it – moving vehicles off the road before snowfall begins wherever possible gives crews more room to clear streets faster.
Residents can also sign up with Volunteer Alexandria’s Snow Buddy program to help neighbors clear sidewalks and driveways who may be unable to complete cleanup work themselves.

Thank you for your continued cooperation as we prepare for inclement weather conditions.
