King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project – Work Begins July 6

Project work will begin on King Street between West Braddock Road and Chinquapin Drive starting Monday, July 6 as part of the King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project at Alexandria City High School. Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to exercise caution in the work zone and obey all posted signs.

Scheduled work will enhance pedestrian, bicycle, and transit infrastructure in the project area and includes the expansion of two bus stops near the school. Scheduled work will improve access to Alexandria City High School by enhancing pedestrian, transit, and bicycle infrastructure in the area. Improvements include expanded bus stops near the school, safer connections for students walking or biking, and roadway changes that support safer and more organized pick-up and drop-off activities while improving access to the existing transportation network.

The King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project is a part of the Safe Routes to School Program, a citywide effort to create safe options for walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement, and safety education.
