Invitation: Electric Leaf Blower Demonstration - October 27

To prepare for the upcoming ordinance banning the use of gas-powered leaf blowers in the city, the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services invites you to an electric leaf blower demonstration on Tuesday, October 27 from 2-6 p.m. at Ben Brenman Park near Somervelle Street and Deer Run Court.

Attendees can expect:

  • Demonstrations of ordinance-compliant electric leaf blowers from multiple companies
  • Opportunity to test leaf blowers and explore available equipment options
  • City staff available to answer questions about the ordinance, enforcement policies, and proper disposal of prohibited equipment on-site

The event will also include information on alternatives to leaf blowers and the benefits of transitioning away from gas-powered equipment for landscaping and lawn care.

The ordinance banning the use of gas-powered leaf blowers goes into effect on November 17, 2026, following an 18-month phase-out period since its adoption by City Council in May 2025. This aligns with the City’s goals to reduce air and noise pollution and protect the health of Alexandria residents and workers. Violations may result in civil penalties up to $500.
