Upcoming Maintenance Projects Bring Limited Traffic Impacts to Duke Street and King Street Beginning Week of October 26
Two upcoming maintenance projects beginning the week of October 26 near the railroad tracks along Duke Street and King Street are expected to result in limited traffic impacts to the area.
Bridge maintenance work will take place on the deck of the Duke Street bridge over the CSX railroad tracks beginning the week of October 26th. The work, performed by the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services Infrastructure Maintenance Division, should be complete by mid-November (weather permitting).
During construction, motorists should expect the temporary closure of the westbound left lane of Duke Street between Diagonal Road and Callahan Drive, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please observe traffic detours and other posted signage during these hours to safely share the road with work crews.
In addition to the City’s bridge maintenance work, VRE will perform track maintenance beginning Wednesday, October 28 requiring the closure of the westbound travel lane on King Street between Cameron Street and Callahan Drive. The track maintenance work is anticipated to take approximately 6-7 business days, weather permitting.
The track maintenance work will take place Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. During this time, traffic underneath the rail bridge will be managed with flaggers to retain the thoroughfare but delays should be expected.
Any changes to the project schedules will be communicated through the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services social media accounts and eNews updates.
