Park & Recreation Commission to Hold Public Hearing on Unfenced Dog Exercise Areas

The Park and Recreation Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, September 17, 7 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave. to receive public comment on a proposal to remove the designation of three unfenced dog exercise areas because they present potential safety issues for dogs, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists, and others using adjacent streets. The areas under consideration are 1.) Ft. Williams Parkway at Dearborn Rd; 2.) Southeast corner of Braddock Road and Commonwealth Ave.; and 3.) W. Timberbranch Parkway and Parkway Terrace

Movies Under the Stars

Outdoor movies continue on a three-story high movie screen under the stars. Concessions will be available and blankets, low beach chairs, coolers and outside food items are welcome.

Splash with DASH to the Old Town Pool

The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH), in partnership with Advocates for Alexandria Aquatics, the City of Alexandria, and more than 20 local businesses, have announced “Splash with DASH,” an initiative to get families and children to the Old Town Pool this summer. From July 1 through September 7, the AT 10 route will become the free Pool Bus on weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and on weekends between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The City of Alexandria 2015 Outdoor Pool Season is open at the Old Town Pool, 1609 Cameron St., and Memorial Pool at Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St.

Summer camps and activities are available for youth ages 2-17 and include sports, dance, creative arts, computer, chess, enrichment, nature, adventure, Out of School Time (residents only) and classic camps. The Summer of Smiles brochure makes planning the summer even easier with an index listing camps by week offered and age group.
