All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Residential trash and recycling will be collected on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, beginning at 6 a.m.

Register for Recreation Programs, Camps & Activities

Registration for Winter 2015 classes and activities opens Wednesday, December 10 for City residents and Friday, December 12 for nonresidents. Register online, in-person or by phone at the new Registration & Reservation Office located at the Lee Center at 1108 Jefferson St. The Registration & Reservation Office, a single source for information about recreation programs, facilities and reservations, is open for walk-in or phone support at 703.746.5414 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Winter 2015 Recreation Program Guide Now Available!

Subscribers of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities' Program Guide will receive printed copies in August (fall issue), December (winter issue), and March (spring & summer issue) each year.

Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Scheduled for Friday, November 28
Kick off the holiday season by making plans to attend the 2014 City of Alexandria Tree Lighting Ceremony at Market Square, 301 King St., with a pre-show concert by the holiday tree with the Adoration Ringers of the First Baptist Church at 5:15 p.m. The formal tree lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
RPCA Launches New Parks Viewer
Parks viewer is a GIS-based tool that includes a searchable map of all publicly accessible open space in Alexandria. You can use it to search for facilities, including playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation centers, and park acreage. Once you visit, please use feedback feature in the Parks Viewer so we can know if you are able to find what you are looking for or how we can improve the site.

Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities FY 2015 Service Expectations
On May 1, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to adopt a $636.8 million General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015, which begins July 1, 2014. Despite challenging economic conditions, the goal of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is to maintain its core services. As costs continue to increase in providing core services to residents, some service adjustments have been made. RPCA Implements Service Enhancements to Improve Customer Service
In alignment with its goal to provide high quality customer service, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is pleased to announce two new customer service enhancements. A Registration & Reservation Office is now open to provide customers with a one-stop-shop to get information and to register for programs, activities and facility reservations.

Ad Hoc Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group

The Advisory Group was re-established by City Council resolution in June 2011. The group will provide City staff recommendations on the appropriate balance of park uses, as well as implanting education and outreach opportunities and implantation of recommendations made in the 2011 Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group report.
