The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is conducting a Program Interest survey to help determine programming priorities by location, user group and time of day. Feedback received from both residents and nonresidents will guide staff in the development of future program offerings.

Summer camps and activities are available for youth ages 2-17. Registration for 2014 Summer Camps opens Wednesday, March 19 for City of Alexandria residents and Friday, March 21 for nonresidents.
Community Garden Policies and Procedures define the terms and conditions for the reservation of 194 community garden plots located in Chinquapin Park, 3210 King St., and Holmes Run Parkway.

Picnic sites are available for reservation from April 1 through October 31 in four hour time blocks. Based on size and location, site furnishing may include tables, grills and small shelters. Picnic sites are available to City residents only.
2013 Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Needs Assessment Findings Are In!The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities conducted a citywide Needs Assessment survey during Summer/Fall 2013. The purpose of the survey was to establish priorities for the future development of Alexandria’s parks, recreation, cultural facilities, programs and services based on identified community needs.
In the summer of 2012, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities began a multi-year process with the public to develop a Citywide Parks Improvement Plan
On May 6, City Council adopted a $624.8 million General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014, an increase of 6.3% from FY 2013. Despite challenging economic conditions, the goal of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is to maintain its core services. As costs continue to increase in providing core services to residents, some service adjustments have been made.
