Follow the steps below in advance of attending New Employee Orientation (NEO) to find the benefits that best meet your needs.
Step 1: Meet Alex

ALEX will ask you a few questions about your health care needs (your answers remain anonymous), crunch some numbers, and recommend plans that are best for your personal needs. It's that easy! Click the link below to get started.
Step 2: Review Benefit Options
Review the below summary of benefits and coverage documents that describe benefit provisions and options. You will be able to enroll online once you have a network login and password.

MEDICAL PLANS
The City's two medical providers are United Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente.

DENTAL PLANS
The City offers two dental plans through Aetna:
- Aetna Dental DMO
- Aetna Dental PPO
VISION PLANS
The City offers a vision plan through Aetna:
LIFE INSURANCE PLANS
The City provides employees with a life insurance benefit at no cost to employees that is equal to one times salary. Employees also have the option of purchasing supplemental life insurance and dependent life insurance.
- Life Insurance Enrollment Form - beneficiary information needed including SSN
- Line of Duty Life Insurance Form - Public Safety only
LONG-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE PLANS
The City provides, at no cost to employees, a long-term disability insurance benefit (60% of pay) beginning after 120 days of disability. Employees have the option to "buy up" to a long-term disability plan that begins after 90 days.
PRE-TAX ACCOUNTS
The City offers employees the opportunity to save money on healthcare, dependent care and commuter parking by establishing pre-tax accounts.
SICK LEAVE BANK
The City offers employees the opportunity to qualify for an additional 160 hours of sick leave after all of their own leave is exhausted by donating 8 hours of vacation leave to the Sick Leave Bank.
Step 3: Review Available Retirement Options
The retirement benefits you are eligible for depends on the type of employee you are. Most employees are required to participate in at least one retirement plan. Check below to learn more about your retirement benefits:

Step 4: Make Note of Questions
Write down any questions you have from reviewing benefit information and enrollment forms to ensure that you get them answered at NEO.
Step 5: Attend New Employee Orientation
During NEO you will have the opportunity to:
- Meet the benefits staff and get your questions answered
- Finalize your benefit decisions
- Enroll in your selected benefit plans
Step 6: Check AlexNet Regularly
AlexNet is your employee intranet and home to all important employee information. AlexNet content includes:

On AlexNet, employees can click on "My Pay, Leave & Info" to connect to MUNIS self-serve to update contact information, review pay stubs and register for trainings.
