On May 3, 2023, the Alexandria City Council unanimously adopted a Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 General Fund Operating Budget of 884.3 million, $45.1 million more than compared to the FY 2023 Approved Budget and an additional $3.2 million more than the FY 2024 City Manager Proposed Budget. Of the $3.2 million funding increase approved by City Council through add/delete, roughly one-half is to reduce Capital Improvement Program (CIP) borrowing for ongoing financial sustainability, and the other half is to expand or improve services provided in the operating budget. The FY 2024 approved budget includes $258.7 million in operating funds for the Alexandria City Public Schools, a $9.9 million (or 4.0%) increase over FY 2023 funding. The budget proposal also includes significant capital investments for stormwater management infrastructure; educational facilities; and maintenance of existing City assets and facilities, totaling $2.40 billion (11.7%) over 10 years in Alexandria’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). FY 2024 begins on July 1, 2023, and ends June 30, 2024.

For a brief description and highlights of the budget, please refer to the FY 2024 Budget in Brief pamphlet.
