On February 28, 2023, City Manager Jim Parajon presented the Alexandria City Council with a proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 General Fund Operating Budget of $881.1 million, which represents an increase of 5.0% over the current year. The proposed budget includes $258.7 million in operating funds for the Alexandria City Public Schools, a $9.9 million (or 4.0%) increase over FY 2023 funding. The budget proposal also includes significant capital investments for stormwater management infrastructure; educational facilities; and maintenance of existing City assets and facilities, totaling $2.40 billion over 10 years in Alexandria’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
