Kaiser Provides Free Health Coverage to 75 Alexandrians

A DCHS CONNECT NEWS HIGHLIGHT

Medical Insurance Kaiser Web Image

November 11, 2021--The Kaiser Permanente Community Health Access Program (CHAP) is providing health care coverage with no monthly payments to 75 City of Alexandria residents who do not have or will not qualify for other types of medical insurance.

This opportunity is especially beneficial to people who cannot obtain insurance for their medical care through other health coverage such as Medicaid, Medicare, job-based health plan, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), thus they may rely solely on emergency rooms, free clinics or urgent care.

Applicants do not have to be citizens of the United States to qualify, in fact, Kaiser’s CHAP coverage is also available to individuals without documentation.

To be eligible, applicants should:

  • Live in a household with an income no more than three times the federal poverty level (for example, up to $38,640 for a single person or $79,500 for a family of four in 2021).
  • Aren’t eligible for other health coverage like Medicaid, FAMIS, Medicare, employer health care, or financial help through the health benefit exchange, or any other public or private health coverage.
  • Live in the City of Alexandria.

Applications will be received until December 15 or until the 75 Kaiser CHAP slots are filled; whichever occurs first. Availability is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. All required documentation must be submitted before December 15.

Alexandria residents can start the application process by calling 703.746.5700 or by walking into the Department of Community & Human Services at 2525 Mount Vernon Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

For more information, including what benefits are provided at $0 or at low cost, see the resources below. Please note that besides young adults, as indicated in the brochure, all adults and children may apply too.
