ALEXANDRIA’S OFFICE OF COMMUNITY SERVICES HONORED WITH THE MARK GRIGSBY SELFLESS LEADER AWARD BY VIRGINIA COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP

June 28, 2023: The Virginia Community Action Partnership (VACAP) honored the City of Alexandria’s Office of Community Services (OCS) with the Mark Grigsby Selfless Leader Award during Community Action month. OCS played major role during the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to its efforts around eviction prevention and supporting vulnerable households, and this award highlights those efforts.

All Community Action staff in Virginia were recognized for their selfless service as pandemic first responders by the VACAP Board of Directors. This is the highest honor and award given annually by VACAP.

The year 2023 marks the 59th year since the Community Action Network was established to help American families and communities overcome obstacles to poverty. Of the over 1,000 agencies across the country, 31 of them are here in Virginia working every day to create opportunities and transform the lives of their neighbors, making communities stronger and helping families thrive.

OCS provides rental assistance to eligible, low-income persons facing a housing crisis. The goal is to help stabilize the household and to prevent the household from becoming homeless. To learn more about the services offered by OCS.

VACAP Community Action Partnership is the statewide membership association for Virginia’s thirty-one non-profit private and public community action agencies. VACAP’s mission is to build capacity and competencies of Virginia’s community action agencies to achieve their mission of creating economic opportunities and facilitating mobility from poverty for the people of Virginia. VACAP is committed to a future in which all of Virginia’s community action agencies are high impact and people and places across Virginia are thriving.
