Housing Crisis Assistance
The Office of Community Services (OCS) provides rental assistance to eligible, low-income persons facing a housing crisis. The goal is to help stabilize the household and to prevent the household from becoming homeless. To request any OCS services, please call the Department of Community and Human Services Customer Call Center at 703.746.5700 for an assessment. Housing for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities
There are a variety of subsidized housing options for seniors and persons with disabilities in Alexandria. Eligibility is based on income and family size. Please be aware that properties may have long waiting lists or may not be currently accepting new applications.
Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA):

Rent Relief for Older and Disabled Adults
This program offers cash grants of up to $6,000 per year to low-income renters who are 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled. The applicant’s total combined annual income must not exceed 30% of HUD’s Area Median Income (AMI). Applicants under the age of 65 must provide proof of disability.
Applications are renewed annually and are due by May 1. Any applications received after this date may be placed on a waitlist, depending on available funding. Approved applicants will receive monthly benefits of up to $500.
