Online Resource Directory for Youth, Young Adults, and Families
March 10, 2026- The City of Alexandria has launched an updated, youth-friendly online Resource Directory for Youth & Young Adults, designed to make it easier for young people, young adults, and families to find help, get connected, and know they are not alone.
The digital directory features nearly 300 local resources spanning a wide range of needs, including food access, housing support, mental health services, healthcare, jobs and career pathways, youth programs, sports and recreation, arts and culture, and leadership opportunities. The revamped resource guide makes it easy to navigate so users can quickly find what they need, when they need it.
Originally developed in July 2022, the Resource Directory was created in response to a City Council memo calling for stronger promotion of youth safety, resilience, and access to supports. Informed by recent findings from Alexandria’s Youth Needs Assessment, the directory has now been significantly refreshed to address a key message youth shared - that many young people and families are unaware of the resources already available to them.
As the City begins shaping the next Children and Youth Community Plan, the updated directory reflects a broader, more inclusive approach to youth well-being. In addition to afterschool programs, activities, and employment opportunities, the directory now includes expanded basic needs supports, such as affordable housing resources, food distribution, cash assistance, healthcare and dental services, utility support, and legal aid, recognizing that young people thrive when their families and caregivers are supported, too.
