On Thursday, July 24, Mayor Alyia Gaskins paid a visit to the Adult Day Services Center (ADSC) at the Lee Center. She spent time interacting with both staff and program participants. Together, everyone enjoyed friendly rounds of ping-pong, while wearing pink and silver cowboy hats.

Operated through the City’s Division of Aging & Adult Services, the ADSC serves up to 24 adults aged 55 and over, offering weekday care with a full schedule of physical, social and cognitive activities, meals, medication administration, and caregiver respite services. Staff include therapeutic recreation specialists and a registered nurse, ensuring each participant’s needs are thoughtfully addressed. Located at 1108 Jefferson St. at the backside of the Lee Center, ADSC operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fees are based on income, making the program accessible to individuals and families. There is generally no waitlist, and transportation can be arranged.

Why ADSC Matters

The Adult Day Services Center is more than a daytime facility. It’s a hub for social connection, safe support, wisdom and creative challenge for older adults. By offering meals, structured activities, field trips, sports leagues, community service projects and compassionate support, ADSC:

  • Helps participants connect with one another while in an environment that encourages dignity and engagement
  • Provides respite and resources for caregivers
  • Fosters a space to spark friendships, mental stimulation and physical well-being
  • Relies on passionate staff and volunteers who bring the programs to life

Mayor Gaskin's  visit spotlighted the ADSC’s vibrant spirit. The playful hats and laughter over table tennis shed light on how small joys and personal connection make an impact. Places like the ADSC are critical to building a community where older adults can thrive and volunteers like Laurie and staff leaders like Jackie ensure that every day is full of purpose.

Stay Connected: Newsletters & Caregiver Resources

To keep families informed and engaged, the ADSC Monthly Newsletter features photos, activity highlights, participant birthdays and field trips. In addition to the monthly newsletter, the City provides access to Trualta, an online training portal that gives caregivers practical tips and skills for supporting loved ones at home.
