May 30, 2024- The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is a coordinated community effort to ensure that victims of sexual assault receive an effective and compassionate response.  SART also works together to prevent sexual assault in the community. 

SART works by the following principals: 

Victim-centered: Trains individuals to work properly with victims, ensures that services are coordinated, and that the victim’s healing is paramount and separate from the criminal justice process. 

Accountable: Holds everyone accountable for providing high quality services to victims based on current standards and that issues are identified and solved in a constructive manner. 

Proactive: Works with the community to prevent sexual assault and to educate community members and takes care of one another to prevent burnout and to support each other. 

Continually improving: Seeks new practices and other proven ways to prevent sexual assault and to better serve victims. 

For information about sexual assault response and prevention services in the City of Alexandria, please visit alexandriava.gov/SexualViolence. The program offers support to victims of sexual assault and their families and friends 24 hours a day seven days a week at 703.683.7273.
