City of Alexandria Releases Racial Equity Toolkit to Support Inclusive Decision-making
For Immediate Release: May 31, 2023
Alexandria, Va. — The City of Alexandria will release the Racial Equity Toolkit for use by City agencies and community organizations. For the past three years, the City’s Race and Social Equity (RASE) Office has been working to develop tools to promote equity throughout our community. This new resource will support the design of equity-driven policies, programs, and initiatives.
The RASE Office will release the Racial Equity Toolkit in a community event at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center (4850 Mark Center Dr.), Conference Room 1305. The event will introduce participants to the different stages of inclusive decision making. Please register for the event by filling out the Racial Equity Toolkit Launch Registration Form.
The Racial Equity Toolkit helps users:
-
Adopt tangible and sustainable practices that promote racial equity in programs, policies, and initiatives;
-
Recognize racial equity as both a process and an outcome; and
-
More effectively engage historically marginalized communities across Alexandria in equity-driven decision-making.
A series of opportunities will be available to engage with residents regarding the forthcoming equity resources as the city moves toward a more intentionally equitable future.
Since hiring the City’s first Race and Social Equity Officer, internal and external contributors to the City’s equity commitment have begun engaging in equity training, identifying and addressing inequities in their services and applying an equity lens to their work to determine how to best serve all Alexandrians.
In 2021, City Council adopted the ALL Alexandria Resolution, the city’s commitment to race and social equity through increased knowledge, understanding and dynamic engagement throughout the Alexandria community. View the ALL Alexandria Resolution video.
View the Racial Equity Toolkit Launch Event Flyer in English, Spanish and Amharic.
