How to Get Started as a Job Seeker

We’re here to help you take the next step in your career journey. As part of the Virginia Career Works – Alexandria/Arlington Region and the American Job Center Network, we connect job seekers with training, employment resources, and personalized support.
To get started, follow our Job Seeker Steps in order. After completing Steps 1–3, you’ll be matched with an Employment Specialist for Step 4. Most participants finish the first three steps within a week.
Step 1: Complete our City of Alexandria Employment Services Intake Form. Our Employment Navigator will then contact you for an initial consultation appointment to assess how we can best assist you with employment, training, and any other program or service we may offer.
Step 2: Attend Orientation by watching both videos in our video library
Step 3: Follow up with our Employment Navigator, Lilia Nino, at Lilia.ninogamez@alexandriava.gov after completing steps 1 and 2 to be assigned a career coach or if you need assistance during steps 1 or 2.
Step 4: Meet with your career coach and explore employment possibilities and options, which could include referrals to partner agencies for specialized support.

Here are your options when working independently as a job seeker:
- Our career center is available for you to use for independent job search activities. Feel free to check out one of our laptops to use as well.
- Ask our front desk to use one of our focus rooms for quiet research or video interviews.
- Use any of our resources in our Job Seeker Toolkit section below.
- Register for any events, online or in-person workshops, and look through our featured jobs.
- Sign up as a job seeker and use our online job board.
