City Accepting Applications for Youth Peer Advocates

February 19, 2021--The City of Alexandria invites Alexandria high schoolers to apply for Keep It 360 Peer Advocates positions, which support prevention and outreach efforts.

Peer advocates work closely with the Alexandria Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy (ACAP), the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center (SAC) and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA)  to deliver presentations about sexual and reproductive health, sexual assault prevention, healthy relationships and substance abuse prevention. Peer Advocates will also create social media content and collaborate with City agencies and student organizations. The positions require 4-6 hours a week and are paid $10 an hour.

“Teens have amazing ideas about how to spread messages about healthy relationships and healthy living to other teens,” says Erika Callaway Kleiner of the SAC. “We are excited to work with more young people to prevent unhealthy actions and violence and promote a healthier Alexandria.”

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 7 and can be submitted online. For questions, email angelique.gordon@alexandriava.gov. 

ACAP is a community coalition dedicated to preventing adolescent pregnancy through culturally and age appropriate education, advocacy, technical assistance, direct service prevention programs and public awareness.  Collaboratively, ACAP works with our young people, their families and the community to secure brighter futures.
