Senior Specialty Programs

Senior Specialty programs offer engaging opportunities designed to support active, healthy aging. Unless otherwise noted, these programs are for City residents only. A Recreation Center ID card is required and provided free with proof of residency. For details, click the links below or call the Registration & Reservation Office at 703.746.5414.

SilverSneakers® Fitness Program

The City of Alexandria RPCA partners to offer complimentary SilverSneakers® memberships to eligible residents. SilverSneakers® is a nationally recognized fitness program for older adults that supports strength, cardio & flexibility through age-appropriate classes. Check eligibility & register here.

Power Plus Clubs

Power-Plus Clubs are ongoing & free unless otherwise noted. Clubs include game nights, social hours, dance, fitness, movie nights, Zumba, walking clubs & more. Please see the latest Senior guide above for details.

Participant in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

Northern Virginia Senior Olympics (NVSO)

NVSO is held annually & is open to residents 50+. Participants compete in 25 indoor and outdoor events including track, swimming, golf, scrabble, bowling, basketball, line dancing, pickleball & more that promote health, fitness, and connection. Sponsored by the NVSO Committee. Registration required.

RPCA PHRC Senior Recreation Orientation Webbox

Robust Walking

Robust Walking is a wholesome pathway to successful aging that weaves low-intensity exercises into a walk. To learn more & to start a Robust Walking group in your neighborhood, call 703.746.5575, or contact Dr. Dan Kulund of the Commission on Aging at 703.850.0424 or dankulund@gmail.com.

Fitness Passes & Personal Training

There are multiple pass options for the use of the fitness rooms & other amenities. Alexandria residents 60 & older are eligible to receive a 20% discount on fitness passes & classes. Click here to view our offerings.

Successful Aging Committee (SAC)

A group of program managers who collaborate to share information & provide several citywide activities for older adults in Alexandria. For additional information, please call 703.746.5429 or 703.746.5676. SAC events include: Dance for All Ages, Senior Health & Fitness Fair & Holiday Luncheon.

Senior Services of Alexandria

A local non-profit organization that offers support & services to seniors living in the City of Alexandria, including Meals on Wheels, DOT Paratransit reservations, Groceries-to-Go, Friendly Visitors, Senior Information Corners, monthly Senior Speaker Series events & a Senior Ambassador Program.

Department of Community & Human Services Division of Aging & Adult Services

Provides a variety of services to residents ages 60+ including transportation, an adult day health care facility, home visits & case management, home-delivered meals, health insurance counseling & volunteer opportunities. For details, call 703.746.5999.
