About Us

allalexandria_logo

Established in 2020, the Office of Race and Social Equity (RASE) is part of the City Manager's leadership team and serves as a centralized resource to advance equitable outcomes across the City of Alexandria.

Our mission is to help ensure that policies, programs, services, and organizational practices are designed and implemented in ways that are fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Alexandria's diverse communities and workforce.

We partner with departments, residents, employees, and community stakeholders to identify barriers, improve decision-making processes, and build systems that promote equitable access and opportunity. Through training, technical assistance, strategic planning, community engagement, data-informed analysis, and organizational accountability, we support the City's ongoing efforts to reduce disparities and improve outcomes for all.

RASE Office Mission, & Vision

RASE advances the City's commitment to equitable outcomes by working across departments to integrate equity into planning, decision-making, service delivery, and community engagement. Through strategic partnership, technical assistance, data-informed analysis, and collaboration with residents and stakeholders, we help reduce barriers, expand opportunity, and foster belonging for all Alexandrians.

We envision an Alexandria where all residents and employees have equitable access to opportunities, resources, and services; experience a sense of belonging; and are able to thrive. We aspire to build a community where diverse perspectives are valued, barriers to opportunity are reduced, and everyone has the ability to participate, contribute, and succeed.

From Commitment to Action

The All Alexandria Resolution reflects the City's commitment to advancing equitable outcomes and creating a community where all residents have the opportunity to thrive.

The Office of Race and Social Equity (RASE) helps turn that commitment into action. Working across City government, we partner with departments to integrate equity into planning, policy development, budgeting, workforce practices, service delivery, and community engagement.

Through this work, the City seeks to:

  • Reduce barriers to participation, access, and opportunity.
  • Foster a sense of belonging for residents and employees.
  • Use data and community input to inform decision-making.
  • Strengthen policies, practices, and systems that improve outcomes.
  • Build organizational capacity to serve Alexandria's diverse communities effectively.

RASE supports these efforts through training, technical assistance, strategic planning, community engagement, and data-informed analysis.

Together, these efforts help advance a more inclusive, responsive, and effective City government—one that works to ensure all Alexandrians have the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.
