The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather advisory for our area from 9 p.m. Wednesday evening until 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
Starting this evening, expect sleet, rain and freezing rain through the night. Ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Overnight precipitation and subfreezing temperatures are likely to exacerbate hazardous road conditions.
Rain will continue through 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, with a small chance for more rain Thursday night.
Here is What the City is Doing:
- Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) has brined all critical roadways, with a focus on ice-prone areas such as hills, bridges, and overpasses.
- The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) have conducted pre-treatment activities at Alexandria City Public Schools and the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, Metrorail stations, and City recreation facilities and will continue to monitor through Thursday.
- The Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road has extended hours from Wednesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. until Thursday, February 6 at 12 p.m.
