The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, February 8. Wintry precipitation for the area with ice accumulation up to one tenth of an inch (0.1”) and snow up to two tenths of an inch (0.2”) is possible.

The National Weather Service has sent notice of a Slight Winter Storm Threat on Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11. The exact snow forecast is unavailable right now, but impacts could be over two inches (2”).

Here is What the City is Doing to Prepare:

  1. Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) has brined all critical roadways, with a focus on ice-prone areas such as hills, bridges, and overpasses. They will continue to monitor conditions throughout Sunday morning and will apply salt or sand as necessary.
  2. The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) have conducted pre-treatment activities at schools, Metrorail stations, and recreation facilities and will continue pre-treating areas with focus on weekend programs and overall readiness.
  3. The Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road will extend its hours from February 7 at 7 p.m. until February 9 at 7 a.m.
