City Manager Declares Local Emergency
Due to the significant winter storm expected to impact our area, the City of Alexandria has declared a local emergency effective Saturday, January 24.
The storm is expected to begin late Saturday night and continue through early Monday morning, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and icy conditions. Travel is expected to become hazardous, and residents should prepare for difficult road conditions and extremely cold temperatures.
In advance of the storm, the City has also declared a Snow Emergency. All vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency routes by 10 p.m. Saturday evening to allow crews to safely clear roads. Vehicles left on these routes may be ticketed or towed.
Very cold temperatures are expected throughout the area, with dangerously low wind chills. Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors, dress warmly in layers, and check on neighbors, seniors, and others who may need assistance.
City crews are actively preparing and will be working around the clock to respond to storm impacts and protect public safety. Residents can check current road conditions at any time by calling 511.
Additional updates will be shared as conditions change. Please continue to monitor official City communication channels for the latest information and guidance.
