Applications Now Open for Sheriff’s Office Fall Community Academy

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the Fall Community Academy. The community academy will begin on Saturday, September 19th, and run for the next three Saturdays, concluding on October 10th. Each session will last approximately four hours.

Community Academy is an amazing way to learn the ins and outs of the Sheriff’s Office. Classes are a combination of presentations and interactive activities. Class topics will include jail operations, judicial and special operations, civil process and warrant service, as well as inmate services and programs. Participants will tour the Adult Detention Center and Alexandria Courthouse, interact with Sheriff’s Office vehicles and equipment, participate in simulator training scenarios, and meet ASO K9 Aida!

Community Connections: National Night Out 2026

National Night Out 2026 was a blast! Thank you to all the civic associations, neighborhood groups, religious organizations, and more who hosted a National Night Out event, and to all those who attended!

During the evening, 28 members of the Sheriff's Office, both sworn and civilian, attended 30 different events across the community. One deputy even attended all of his event by bike, riding just over 17 miles by the end of the evening! The night was amazing, filled with food, fun, games, competitions, and community connection! The City of Alexandria hosted just over 50 registered National Night Out events, and ASO is grateful for a community dedicated to partnership, collaboration, and connection with all our public safety partners. 

Back to School: Elementary School Liaison Program 

School is back in session, and so is the Elementary School Liaison Program. The Elementary School Liaison Program pairs ASO deputies with elementary schools across the city to foster positive connections and relationships with kids and parents.

Each Alexandria City Public Schools elementary school is assigned a deputy who, in addition to their regular duties and assignments, spends time at their school to help students, faculty, staff, and parents become familiar with the deputy and foster positive engagement in the school environment.

Deputies focus on building relationships with students and school employees by joining kids at lunchtime, taking part in school activities like career day and reading events, greeting students at arrival or dismissal, and simply providing a regular presence. While visiting, the deputies also survey general security and safety by checking the doors, windows, and grounds, and touching base with school security personnel. Deputies only take law enforcement action if a situation occurs that requires such a response. 

Next time you see the liaison deputy at your kiddo’s elementary school, be sure to stop and say hello!

Sheriff’s Office Earns Advanced Law Enforcement Reaccreditation from CALEA

Sheriff Sean Casey is proud to announce that for the 11th consecutive time, the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office (ASO) has earned accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Sheriff’s Office received its formal reaccreditation for Advanced Law Enforcement during CALEA’s conference in Omaha, Nebraska, in July 2026.

This CALEA reaccreditation reflects the exceptional professionalism, accountability, and dedication our deputies and professional staff demonstrate every day in service to our community. Detention Center Data Dashboard

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office recently launched a Detention Center Data Dashboard. This dashboard contains information on the population of the detention center, including the number of local and federal inmates in custody, capacity percentages, and demographic information. The dashboard is updated daily.
