The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for our region; it will remain in effect until tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 a.m. NWS predicts possible additional snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches, with a mixture of rain, snow, and freezing snow forecasted throughout the day tomorrow. Additionally, Tuesday night's low temperature is expected to reach 16 degrees.

Here is how the City is responding:

The Transportation & Environmental Services Department (T&ES) is preparing for heavier snowfall anticipated Monday night into Tuesday.

T&ES activated its snow and ice team this morning at 7 a.m. T&ES plans to continue to respond to this morning’s snowfall, and expected heavier snowfall and freezing temps tonight, with 24-hour coverage.

The Department of Community & Health Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road will operate with extended hours through Wednesday; DCHS is monitoring the weather and will adjust operating hours as needed.

The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA) recreation centers will also serve as warming centers during their normal operating hours.

Hours may be extended if needed.  A full list of RPCA recreation centers is available here.

Prepare for winter weather:

With the weather expected to drop to dangerously cold temperatures, be prepared and know where you can go to get out of the cold. If in need of a place to warm up, consider visiting a restaurant, shopping mall, community center, or a local library.

  • Gather supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power. Keep in mind each person’s specific needs, including medication and access to power.

  • If you have a pet, be sure to provide them access to a warm shelter, preferably indoors, as well as plenty of food and water.

  • Prepare your home to keep out the cold with insulation, caulking, and weather stripping. Keep pipes from freezing by allowing faucets to drip, keeping cabinet doors open, and garage doors closed.
