UPDATE: Recovery Operations Expand, Impacts Trails and Shoreline
UPDATE: Daingerfield Island, Gravelly Point, Roaches Run and Jones Point Park are closed for response efforts at the Potomac River. Pedestrians should avoid these areas and follow police direction. United States Park Police (USPP) is asking drivers to avoid stopping on the side of the GWMP.
Alexandrians can expect to see local impacts due to ongoing recovery efforts to support the tragic Jan. 29 aircraft collision.
- The Mount Vernon Trail is closed north of the intersection of the Four Mile Run and Mount Vernon Trails. Individuals who want to continue north should use the Four Mile Run Trail.
- The Alexandria Fire Department will be working along the Waterfront to assist in debris removal. The public is asked to stay clear of active areas of recovery where fire department personnel and vehicles are located and to follow signs and directions of first responders on the scene.
We understand the curiosity and concerns residents may have. We strongly encourage visitors to the waterfront to not touch or collect anything you believe may be related to this incident. For your safety and the safety of others, immediately contact 9-1-1 to report the location.
For more information on closures on National Park property, please check the current conditions on nps.gov or at mountvernontrail.org. Additional closures within the City of Alexandria will be announced at alexandriava.gov as information becomes available.
