The section of King St. between Quincy St. and Kenwood Ave. in Alexandria is currently closed due to a transformer fire. This is close to Alexandria City High School and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, so expect an impact on your morning commute.

Alexandria Police Department and Dominion Energy are on the scene, but Dominion does not anticipate completing their work before noon today.

As a result, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center is without power and will be delayed in opening today. The center will open after Dominion’s work is complete — expected to be around 1 p.m. Chinquapin Pool will be closed for the rest of the day and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 22.

If you are impacted by the power outage or to check its status, visit dominionenergy.com/outages or call 866.366.4357.

Plan for longer commutes this morning. West Braddock Rd., Duke St., Quaker Ln., and Glebe Rd. are all alternatives to the blocked portion of King St.

For reasonable disability accommodation, contact Mariah Covington at Mariah.Covington@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3978, Virginia Relay 711.
