Alexandria Police Department Announces Street Closures on Sunday, April 27 for the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon

Beginning at 2 a.m. on April 27, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) will begin closing roads to accommodate the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon. All City roads on the race route will be closed by 6 a.m. and will remain closed until the completion of the race. The race begins at 7 a.m. and will last until approximately 11 a.m., after which roads will begin to be reopened, with full reopenings expected around noon. No parking zones will be marked in advance of the race, with towing enforced beginning at midnight before the race on April 27. The 13.1-mile course begins at Market Square (301 King St.) and extends through Old Town down the George Washington Parkway. Additional roads surrounding City Hall and Market Square will be closed for race set-up.

Closure Details

  • The 200-400 blocks of King Street will be closed from approximately 2 to 11 a.m.
  • The 100 blocks of South and North Royal Street will be closed from approximately 2 to 11 a.m.
  • The 100 block of South to 300 North Fairfax Street will be closed from approximately 2 to 11 a.m.
  • The 300th block of Cameron Street will be closed from approximately 2 to 11 a.m.
  • Pendleton Street from N. Fairfax to Union to Oronoco Street will be closed from 3 a.m. until approximately noon.
  • Southbound traffic on S. Washington Street will be closed at 5:30 a.m. until runners leave the course. A flagman operation will allow resident access when runners are not actively present.
  • ADDITIONAL CLOSURE: Union Street from Franklin to Oronoco Street will be closed from approximately 5:30 a.m. to noon.
  • The full race route within the City will be closed by 6 a.m.

Parking Restrictions

The entire race course, as well as the following roads, will have towing-enforce parking restrictions beginning at midnight before the race on April 27. Parking enforcement signs will be in posted 72-hours prior to the event.

  • King Street from S Royal Street to Lee Street
  • N Fairfax Street from King Street to Queen Street
  • N Royal Street from King Street to Cameron Street
  • Cameron from N Fairfax Street to N Royal Street
  • Union Street from Queen Street to Oronoco Street
  • N Union Street from Oronoco Street to Pendleton Street
  • Pendleton Street from Fairfax Street to Union Street
  • Madison Street from the East side of the Mount Vernon Trail access to Fairfax Street
  • South row of parking lot located at 700 N Fairfax Building
  • S Washington Street from Church Street to Jefferson Street
  • Green St from S Saint Asaph Street and S Pitt Street
  • Green St from S Fairfax Street to Lee Street

The 100 block N Payne Street in front of Pacers Running store will also have reserved parking for packet pickup on from April 24 at 9 a.m. to April 26 at 7 p.m.
