City of Alexandria Names New Director of Finance After National Search

Following a national recruitment, City Manager James F. Parajon has appointed Kevin C. Greenlief as the new Director of the Department of Finance, effective April 28, 2025.
Greenlief brings over four decades of public service experience, including the past nine years with the City of Alexandria as Assistant Director and Deputy Director of Finance, where he led the Revenue Division. His responsibilities included overseeing the assessment and collection of personal property and business license taxes, trustee taxes, parking citations, and the Tax Relief Program for the Elderly and Disabled.
“Kevin has demonstrated steadfast leadership, exceptional customer service and a deep commitment to Alexandria,” said City Manager Parajon. “I am confident in his ability to continue strengthening the City’s financial stewardship and long-term planning.”
Before joining Alexandria, Greenlief worked for two decades as the Fairfax County Director of the Department of Tax Administration, where he managed over $3 billion in annual revenue.
He holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an MPA from George Mason University. His recognitions include the County’s Managerial Excellence Award, GMU’s Wayne F. Anderson Award for Distinguished Public Service, and the 2018 Kate Hanley Public Service Award from Leadership Fairfax.
