You Belong in Alexandria: Join Us for 2025 Pride

This June, the City of Alexandria proudly celebrates Pride Month with a commitment to belonging, visibility, and joy within our community. As the nation’s capital hosts World Pride just across the river, we invite you to experience Pride with a local twist at the 2025 Alexandria Pride Fair on Saturday, June 28, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Market Square, and at events throughout June across the City.
Whether you're a longtime Alexandrian, a visitor in town for World Pride, or someone seeking community, this event is for you.
Why Pride Matters in Alexandria
For decades, Alexandria has been a place where equality isn't just a value, it's policy. In 1988, Alexandria became the first locality in Virginia to protect sexual orientation under its human rights ordinance. Three years later, a courageous challenge by a local bar owner helped strike down a discriminatory law that banned serving alcohol to gay patrons.
That legacy of advocacy and progress continues today. Alexandria has earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index for five consecutive years, a reflection of our inclusive policies and welcoming community.
Pride Month is both a celebration and a call to action. Pride is an opportunity to honor those who paved the way, recognize the work still ahead, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community here and everywhere.
Celebrating Pride in 2025
This year, the City is hosting events including the Proud History Hangout on June 12, Tavern Game Night: Pride Edition on June 20, and the 8th annual Pride Fair, featuring Drag Story Hour! Our friends at Alexandria Libraries are also hosting Pride-themed craft nights.
Alexandria’s Pride Fair will take place in Market Square on Saturday, June 28, from 3 to 6 p.m. This year’s Pride Fair promises an afternoon full of energy, connection, and community with:
- Live music and dance workshops to get you moving
- Delicious eats from local food trucks
- 50+ LGBTQIA+-inclusive businesses and community organizations
- Free, confidential health services
- Family-friendly activities and spaces for all ages
