City of Alexandria Partners with InnovateUS to Provide Free AI Training for All City Employees
The City of Alexandria has partnered with InnovateUS to provide free artificial intelligence (AI) training to all of our approximately 2,000 City employees. The initiative reflects the City's commitment to responsible AI use in local government and ensures our workforce is equipped to serve residents effectively, efficiently, and responsibly in an increasingly digital world.
"AI technology is here to stay, and our staff deserves to be equipped to use it well. It won't replace the people doing this work, but it can help them do it better, make smarter use of public resources, and use data more efficiently," said Vanetta Pledger, Acting Deputy City Manager. "What excites me most is how AI helps us see the connections across City government so we can build a workforce that's more efficient, more equitable, and better prepared to serve our community."
Through InnovateUS, a nationally recognized learning platform that has trained over 200,000 public sector professionals across all 50 states and 80 countries, Alexandria employees will have access to a comprehensive suite of training options.
All training is free for City employees and is designed specifically for the public sector.
A Commitment to Responsible AI in Government
The City of Alexandria's partnership with InnovateUS is part of a broader effort to ensure that as AI tools become more prevalent, City employees understand not just what these technologies can do, but how to use them ethically, securely, and in the best interest of the public.
Alexandria has already been at the forefront of AI in local government with initiatives including Smart Detection AI-enabled roadway assessment technologies, leveraging AI to reconcile disparate data models across departments, and participating in the first cohort of the AI learning and Innovation Hub. The City also maintains AI acceptable use policies through the Department of Information Technology Services, including AI security training.
