Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility Turns One! Join the Celebration on August 29
It’s been one year since the City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) opened the doors to the City’s newest community gem, the Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility.
To celebrate, join us for an anniversary event featuring free activities for all ages, live music, giveaways, and more!
When: Friday, August 29 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility (3795 W Braddock Rd).

Who was Minnie Howard?
Minnie Stansbury Howard (1868–1950) was a trailblazer in Alexandria's history—an advocate for children, education, and community. She:
- Founded the City’s first PTA in 1912
- Helped open Alexandria’s first public playground
- Established the first children’s home in the City
- Became Alexandria’s first juvenile probation officer
