Old Town Pool Replacement Project
Project Description
The Old Town Pool Replacement project will replace the existing pool and bathhouse with a new facility. The project planning started in 2012 with the City’s Aquatic Facilities Study, which recommended replacing the current aging pool with a new facility. The improvements are funded through the City of Alexandria’s Capital Improvement Program.

The City hired a consultant, Michael Baker International, as the Owner-Advisor (OA) to assist in the predesign phase advisory services. The scope of work for the OA services includes:
- Pool program feasibility study and cost estimate
- Conceptual plan options
- Owner’s project requirements and guidelines
- Design services scope of work
Design: Ongoing
The City has hired RRMM as the consultant to lead the Architectural and Engineering (A/E) Services for the Old Town Pool Renovation project.
- The kickoff meeting for the OA services was held on May 30.
Schedule
- Planning: Complete
- Design: Anticipated June 2025 through Fall 2026
- Construction: Winter/Spring 2027 through Spring/Early Summer 2028
- Substantial Completion: Summer 2028
Note: Schedules are tentative and may be amended through the design and construction. Staff continue to explore options to reduce replacement schedule and minimize closure.
