Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility
Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility offers the following services to persons with disabilities:
- Ramp access to the 25 meter pool. Call ahead for open swim times.
- Lift and ramp access to the pool with staff assistance.
- Elevator access to all levels of the building.
- Accessible unisex privacy changing room and shower area.
- Accessible showers with benches and handheld shower handles are available.
- Personal trainers sensitive to working with persons with disabilities.
- Wheelchair accessible playground.
- Staff assistance upon request.
Services
The Department has adopted the L.I.F.E., Leisure Is For Everyone, philosophy, and the Department complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). ADA accommodations may include, but are not limited to, furnishing assistive listening devices, providing sign language interpreters and meeting with an instructor or staff prior to the start of an activity, class or event to discuss any concerns. To ensure the requested accommodation, please notify the specific facility where the program is provided at least four weeks in advance. Disability Specific Programs

Year-Round Programs & Activities
- Mainstream After-School Program (Ages 6-12)
For youth with behavioral and emotional disabilities that are ready for inclusion in general recreation programming. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Therapeutic Recreation staff approval required for program eligibility. Sept-May.
M-Th 3-6 pm Call for center. - Little Dippers (Ages 6-12)
For youth with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities. Program includes recreational aquatics, arts & crafts, games, sports, exercise, field trips, life skill programs, and opportunities for socialization. Oct-May.
M-Th 3-6 pm CHINQ & LEE - Teen Scene (Ages 13-17)
For youth, with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities. Program includes arts & crafts, games, sports, exercise, field trips, life skill programs, and opportunities for socialization. Oct-May.
T & Th 3-6 pm CHINQ & LEE - TOPSoccer (Ages 5-18)
Coordinated through the Alexandria Soccer Association, this pro¬gram is a basic skill-building program that focuses on team participation and having fun. Youth with and without disabilities are eligible to attend. This is an eight-week program beginning in September.
Su 2-3:15 pm CHINQ Field - Adult Social Club (Ages 18 & up)
Program for adults with cognitive or developmental disabilities. Participants develop leisure interests, awareness, and skills through program outings, activities, and special events, which are all planned by participants as a group.
Sa 11-4 pm LEE - Art Works (Ages 18 & up)
Art program for participants with cognitive or developmental disabilities, Participants work on weekly art projects and explore various art media under the direction of an accomplished artist and Therapeutic Recreation staff. Begins October and ends in May.
M 3:30-5 pm LEE - Sensory Time Exploration Program (STEP)
The STEP program provides opportunities for parent-child interaction in the multi-sensory room. The program is geared towards children with sensory and/or developmental disabilities. The multi-sensory includes Aroma Therapy, Interactive Bubble Columns, Ladder Lights, Leaf Chair, Somatron Body Pillow, Fiber Optic Lights and a Tactile Wall.
Sa 10 am-2 pm LEE - Kids’ Day Out/Fun Night (Ages 6-17)
Programs designed to provide recreation and respite for children and teens with cognitive or developmental disabilities, Program will be held on designated days and evenings. Call 703.746.5422 for more information.
F & Sa LEE - Recreation Volunteer Companion Program (Ages 18 & up)
Designed to assist adults with disabilities who want to participate in general recreation programs. Days and times will vary. Call 703.746.5422 for more information. - Volunteer Instructor Program – VIP
Volunteers have an opportunity to work with younger children while under the supervision of a Therapeutic Recreation Leader while conducting programs. Call 703.746.5422 for more information. - Hobby Enrichment Program – TR on the Go! (Ages 18 & up)
Four week classes for adults with cognitive and developmental disabili¬ties. The program is designed to promote leisure awareness and skills in various rec¬reation activities, including healthy cooking, hiking/nature activities, photography, putt-putt golf, scrap booking and sports.
