Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
Alexandria Opioid Treatment Program (AOTP)
The Alexandria Opioid Treatment Program (AOTP) supports adults who want to address their use or misuse of opioids, including legal medications or illegal substances, like heroin or fentanyl. AOTP offered evidenced-based therapy services in combination with FDA-approved medications, including methadone and buprenorphine, which are administered and dispensed under the supervision of a medical provider. These medications address the body’s physical dependence on opioids to minimize withdrawal symptoms and support the individual while they address other aspects of their lives that may have been impacted by substance use.

Opioid Treatment Program Purpose
The purpose of this program is to help individuals reclaim their lives from opioid use disorders (OUD). Priority admission is given to pregnant and post-partum women, intravenous opioid users, those recently released from incarceration, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. In addition to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), the OTP also links individuals with numerous services and supports. These can include, but are not limited to: therapy, peer support, psychiatric assessment and medication management, medical screening and care, education and employment services, and other social services referrals.
Therapy
Individuals participating in opioid treatment are linked with an individual therapist and have access and referrals to psychoeducation and group therapy. The outpatient program offers a variety of evidenced-based treatment groups for different stages of treatment, including motivational groups for those just starting their journeys, peer support groups, and groups addressing specific topics and clinical needs.

Peer Support
Peer relationships are based on mutual respect and sharing according to the peer’s own lived experience, and can offer practical recovery lifestyle tips and encouragement. Peer support is available to all clients as a complement to their work with their therapist and treatment team. Both group and individual peer meetings are available to assist clients on their journey.
Case Management
Case management is available on a case-by-case basis. Case managers work collaboratively with each client to explore their resource needs and goals, including identifying housing options, exploring education and employment resources, and accessing benefits, transportation, and other resources.
