The Alexandria City Council is seeking applicants to fill the vacancies on City of Alexandria boards, commissions, and committees.  Council will act on these vacancies at the September 13, 2022, City Council meeting.  All applicants must complete a Personal Data Record form electronically via the City’s website at www.alexandriava.gov/Boards  no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 2, 2022.  Applications received after this deadline will not be forwarded to City Council.  Applicants may only submit an application for one committee at a time.

Please note the meaning for the following terminology related to board vacancies:

Expiring Term – denotes a term of a current member will be ending soon.  There may or may not be an incumbent applying for the position.

Expired Term - denotes a term has completed and there is not someone in the position.

Immediate Vacancy – synonymous with Expiring Term.  A term of a current member will be ending soon. The incumbent may or may not be reapplying for the position.

Ad Hoc Stormwater Utility and Flood Mitigation Advisory Group – 3-year term

Meeting Schedule:  at the call of the Chair and staff.

One vacancy for consideration:

One member with interest or expertise in diversity, race and social equity and inclusivity issues - new position.

 

Alcohol Safety Action Program Policy Board - 3-year term

Meeting Schedule:  at the call of the Chair.

Seven vacancies for consideration:

One Virginia Department of Corrections representative, due to an expired term.

One representative of the Alexandria Bar Association, due to an expired term.

One U.S. Probation office representative, due to an expired term.

One citizen member, due to an expired term.

One Public Defender designee, due to an expired term.

One Commonwealth Attorney representative, due to an expired term.

One substance abuse treatment center representative, due to an expired term.

 

Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee – 2-year term

Meeting Schedule:  second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

One vacancy for consideration:

One citizen member, due to an expiring term.

 

Alexandria Gang Prevention Community Task Force – 3-year term

Meeting Schedule:  Task Force meets quarterly.

Five vacancies for consideration:

One T.C. Williams High School representative, due to a resignation.

One Interfaith Community representative, due to an expired term.

One representative from/representing private schools in Alexandria, due to a resignation.

Two at-large members representing youth in the City of Alexandria, due to expired terms.

 

Alexandria Housing Affordability Advisory Committee – 3-year term

Meeting Schedule:  first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. 

Four vacancies for consideration:

One faith community representative, due to an expiring term.

One financial professional, due to an expired.

One representative of an organization that promotes and maintains affordable housing, due to an expiring term.

One housing consumer under 30 years of age, due to an expired term.

 

Alexandria Renew Enterprises – 4-year term

Meeting Schedule: third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

One vacancy for consideration:

One citizen member, due to administrative action.

 

Alexandria Transportation Commission – 3-year term

Meeting Schedule: third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Two vacancies for consideration:

One Planning Commission representative, due to an expiring term.

One Alexandria Transit Company representative, due to a resignation.

 

Archaeological Commission – 4-year term

Meeting Schedule:  third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. 

Four vacancies for consideration: 

One area business community representative, due to an expiring term.

One citizen member, due to a resignation.

One Alexandria Historical Society representative, due to a resignation.

One member from the Alexandria Society for the Preservation of Black Heritage or an equivalent organization, due to an expired term. 

 

Beauregard Urban Design Advisory Committee – 2-year term

Meeting Schedule:  at the call of the Chair - approximately four hours per month.

Beautification Commission – 2-year term

Meeting Schedule:  second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Community Policy and Management Team – 2-year term

Meeting Schedule:  fourth Wednesday of each month at 2:30 p.m.

One representative of a private organization or association of providers of children's or family services which provides such services within the City on a continuing or consistent basis, due to an expiring term.

One parent representative who is not an employee of any public or private program which received funds from the Children’s Services Act, due to an expired term. 

 

Community Services Board – 3-year term

Meeting Schedule:  first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. (except July and August)

Six vacancies for consideration:

Two citizen members, due to a resignation and expiring term.

Four consumers (current or former direct recipient of public or private mental health, intellectual disability, or substance abuse treatment rehabilitation services) or family members (immediate family member or the principal caregiver who is not paid) of consumer, due expired terms and a resignation. 

 

Economic Opportunities Commission – 2-year term

Meeting Schedule:  third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. 

Five vacancies for consideration: 

Two Category III - Representative of business industry, labor, religious, welfare or other private groups and interests certified by the Commission, due to expired terms.

One Category II – Low Income representatives, due to expired terms.

One member from the field of urban planning, due to an expiring term.

One member from the field of environmental sciences (e.g., environmental/sanitary engineering, ecology, geology, botany, hydrology, chemistry) or who have Alexandria waterfront expertise, provided that at least four members shall have scientific expertise, due to an expiring term.
