Annual Commission of the Year Impact Award Guidelines

What is the Annual Commission of the Year Impact Award?

The primary purpose of the Annual Commission of the Year Impact Award is to acknowledge and reward commissions that have demonstrated exceptional performance, innovation, and impact in their respective areas of responsibility. By doing so, we aim to motivate and inspire commissions across the organization to strive for excellence and contribute to the overall success of our mission.

 

Eligibility:

The Annual Commission of the Year Impact Award is open to all City of Alexandria boards, commissions, and committees that meet the criteria specified in these guidelines.

 

Criteria:

The boards eligible to receive the Award will be evaluated on the following:

  • Satisfactory attendance for the past calendar year. (board average must meet 75% attendance requirement)
  • Members of the board have completed all documents required by the city code. (Oath of Office and Statement of Economic Interest, if required)
  • Submission of an Annual Report documenting achievements of the past year and goals for the upcoming year.
  • Positively carries out the charge and directives of the board per the city code.
  • Made significant contributions or impacts to the community.
  • Made significant contributions to the department which houses the board.

 

Who can nominate a board?

Boards can be nominated by the boards' staff liaisons, board chairs, city employees (not serving on the board), and community groups/organizations.

 

Documentations and Deadlines:

Award nomination must include the following:

  • Completed Nomination Form.
  • Endorsement letter supporting the nomination from any department staff that houses the board or community group/organization the board supports.
  • Nomination must be received by the City Clerk’s Office by May 1st of each year.

 

How will City Council decide?

City Council will determine the Annual Commission of the Year using a score sheet to rate community and departmental impacts, as well as the boards' accomplishments and goals relative to the boards' charge. City Council will also provide individual assessments based on personal interactions with boards nominated.
