2020 Artful Gift Guide
Support Local Creative Businesses
In a year of physical distancing, the City of Alexandria created an Artful Gift Guide to help sustain the local creative economy.
Get to know these 20 local artists and makers from across the tri-state area. Find a juried selection of jewelry, wearables, home goods, prints, and original works of art at every price point.
The guide will be active through January 9, 2021.
The participating artists responded to a national open call and were selected by a panel of local arts professionals. Artists keep 100% of their sales.
Mary Louise Marino
Artist Mary Louise Marino weaves connections with Laos through discovery and expression in her handcrafted work. She combines Lao textile materials, simple designs, hand stitched elements, and natural found objects to create unique accessories, home accents, and one-of-a-kind works of art.
Abbi Schellhase
Inspired by her love of art nouveau, fairy books, and her cottage garden, Abbi makes art for the gentle in a ruthless world. She is currently creating a series of art called Obscure Powers, which exists to honor those of a quieter nature.
Christine Vinh
Find small art quilts and mixed-media art, as well as hand-knit scarves and cowls for those who appreciates a handmade decorative piece or wearable item. Vinh sources from independent fiber artists for quality fabrics, yarns, and threads to create her vibrant work.
Pamela Viola
With an eye toward eco-consciousness and sustainability, Pamela creatively reworks cast-off fabric into art, home decor and accessories from vintage and reclaimed textiles.
