Here is What the City is Doing:

  1. City crews are plowing priority roads, beginning with snow emergency routes. Go to alexandriava.gov/Snow for more information on the order roads are plowed.
  2. The Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road is open with extended, 24-hour operations until Wednesday, January 28 at 7 a.m.
  3. Trash, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Monday, January 26, for the safety of our staff. Collection will slide by one day for the rest of the week.
  4. City staff are updating alexandriava.gov/Alert with the latest information.

When will the snow be removed from my street?

Roads are plowed by priority. Snow emergency routes are plowed first, followed by secondary routes, intermediate routes, and then residential streets. The City’s SnowReport tracking system allows residents to view plowing priorities, check the status of individual streets, and submit concerns.

Stay informed:

Get updates about snow removal progress at alexandriava.gov/SnowReport. Road conditions will change until the snow, sleet, and freezing rain are over.

Go to alexandriava.gov/Alert for updates on the City’s response to the Winter Storm.

Follow local media and the National Weather Service winter weather website for information on weather conditions and forecasts.

For information on snow and ice control, visit alexandriava.gov/Snow.

What is a Snow Emergency?

During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on designated snow emergency routes so crews can safely and efficiently plow and treat roads. Snow emergency routes are posted with red and white signs, and listed in the City Code. Vehicles left on these routes may be ticketed or towed.

Thank you for helping keep Alexandria’s streets safe and accessible for emergency responders during winter weather.
